Ding dong! The bells are gonna chime …
JAMIE AND HARRY:
There’s just a few more hours.
That’s all the time you’ve got;
A few more hours
Before they tie the knot.
ALFIE:
There’s drinks and girls all over London
And I’ve gotta track ‘em down
In just a few more hours.
Set ‘em up, me darlin’!
I’m getting married in the mornin’!
Ding dong! The bells are gonna chime.
Pull out the stopper!
Let’s have a whopper!
But get me to the church on time!
I got ta be there in the mornin’,
Spruced up and lookin’ in me prime.
Girls, come and kiss me;
Show how you’ll miss me.
But get me to the church on time!
If I am dancin’,
Roll up the floor.
If I am whistlin’,
Whewt me out the door!
For I’m gettin’ married in the mornin’.
Ding dong! The bells are gonna chime.
Kick up a rumpus,
But don’t lose the compass,
And get me to the church…
JAMIE AND HARRY:
Get ‘im to the church…
ALFIE:
For God’s sake, get me to the church on time!
ALFIE AND CHORUS:
I’m/He’s getting married in the mornin’.
Ding dong! The bells are gonna chime.
Some bloke who’s able
Lift up the table,
And get me to the church on time!
ALFIE:
If I am flyin’,
Then shoot me down.
If I am wooin’,
Get her out of town!
ALFIE AND CHORUS:
For I’m/He’s getting married in the morning!
Ding dong! The bells are gonna chime.
ALFIE:
Feather and tar me;
Call out the Army;
But get me to the church.
Get me to the church.
For God’s sake, get me to the church on time!
CHORUS:
He’s getting married in the mornin’!
Ding dong! The bells are gonna chime.
ALFIE:
Come on! Pull out the stopper!
Let’s have a whopper!
But get me to the church on time!
CHORUS:
He’s got ta be there in the mornin’,
Spruced up and lookin’ in ‘is prime.
ALFIE:

Ding dong! The bells are gonna chime.
ALFIE:
Drug me or jail me,
Stamp me and mail me.
But get me to the church…
CHORUS:
Get him to the church…
ALFIE:
For God’s sake, get me to the church on time!
[musical interlude]
CHORUS:
Girls, come and kiss ‘im;

HARRY AND JAMIE:
Starlight is reelin’ ‘ome to bed now.
Mornin’ is smearin’ up the sky.
CHORUS:
London is wakin’.
Daylight is breakin’.
Good luck, old chum,
Good health, goodbye.
ALFIE:
I’m gettin’ married in the mornin’.
Ding dong! The bells are gonna chime.
CHORUS:
Hail and salute me,
Then haul off and boot me;
And get him to the church,
Get him to the church!
For God’s sake, get him to the church on time!

my, this is a lot of wedding music – not that there’s anything wrong with that…it’s beautiful for a reason. it’s always good to be reminded of joyful times.

Thanks for noticing! I do come up with weekly themes every once in a while — nothing planned, just by accident. I was discussing old movies with someone last week, which is what reminded me of that great scene from “The Graduate.” Then I heard “Wedding Day at Troldhaugen” on the radio; that gave me something to post on Wednesday. Had to think a little bit before I came up with that show-stopper of a performance by Stanley Holloway in “My Fair Lady.” It makes me want to leap up, applaud, and shout “Bravo!”
